Veronica T. Herrera
Crime: Child Abuse, Murder

In April 2013, Veronica T. Herrera of Homedale, Idaho, pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Her victim was her 2-year-old daughter, Nakita.

According to Veronica T. Herrera, 29, little Nakita was fatally injured during potty training on August 15, 2012.

Wow. I for one did not realize how dangerous potty training could be. According to Veronica T. Herrera, her toddler jumped off the potty chair and hit her head on a heater. A few hours later, on August 16, little Nakita was dead.

Unlike every rational person on the planet who would take the injured girl to hospital, Veronica T. Herrera put her little girl in a playpen and told her 9-year-old son to watch her. She herself had to leave to take some of her other children to their auntie’s home in Caldwell.

I cannot imagine leaving a child to look after an injured baby, but that’s what Veronica T. Herrera did.

According to this monstrous mother, she phoned her son later to ask how Nakita was doing. The boy told her she was sleeping.

Veronica T. Herrera did not bother to return home until later that night and by that time little Nakita wasn’t breathing. Apparently that was when she noticed her baby had a big bump on her wee head.

Truth be told, I can’t say this was a potty training accident. Nobody can say this was a potty training accident because, unlike every rational person on the planet, Veronica T. Herrera did not phone 911 to summon some kind of help for her baby who wasn’t breathing.

Nope, at this point Veronica T. Herrera panicked. She “freaked out”. I guess she realized little Nakita was beyond help and was now a problematic corpse.

NakitaThe panic, according to Veronica T. Herrera, wasn’t for the possibility she would be charged in the child’s death. Oh no, the panic was for the possibility she’d lose custody of her 4 other children. Riiight. Cuz she’s such a good and devoted mother!

So what did the hellbitch do with the inconvenient corpse? She put little Nakita’s body in the back of her minivan that night. In the morning Veronica T. Herrera walked to the store to buy lighter fluid.

Yeah, you know what’s coming.

The monstrous mother put her baby girl’s body in a burn barrel in the back yard and set it on fire. She then got her other children to put garbage in the barrel to keep the fire going. That’s right — she recruited her other children to help her burn her baby’s body.

Veronica T. Herrera consoled herself that she didn’t think the children realized their baby sister was in the barrel, except maybe the 9-year-old boy. I can’t imagine how it awful it was for that poor kid.

By the next morning Veronica T. Herrera realized that the body was still recognizable so off to the store she went again to buy more lighter fluid.

As this hellbitch burned her baby’s corpse along with the trash, she also added Nakita’s belongings to the flames.

So where was Nakita’s daddy while this was going on? He had been out of town heroically fighting wild fires. Being a good father, he called every day to ask how his daughter was. And every day his girlfriend Veronica would lie and say the baby was at her parents’ house.

The trouble with Veronica T. Herrera’s horrific plan to escape the consequences of her actions was the fact her boyfriend wasn’t going to be gone forever. He did return on August 18, 2012, and he wanted to see his daughter.

The jig was well and truly up. The hellbitch asked him to drive her to her parents’ house and to take her other kids to the fair. He must have wondered what was up, but he was soon to find out.

At her parents’ house, Veronica T. Herrera confessed to them what she’d done. Her parents drove her to the Nampa Police Department.

Herrera HouseThe crying hellbitch walked up to an officer and told him she’d done something bad, that her child was hurt and that she’d made it worse. Damn straight she made it worse!

Because little to nothing was left of little Nakita, nobody could determine absolutely what had happened to her. All that was left was Veronica T. Herrera’s ridiculous tale of the potty training accident.

An Owyhee County grand jury was convened and they found that Veronica T. Herrera, “with the intentional application of torture,” intentionally inflicted “extreme and prolonged pain,” by “inflicting repeated acts of blunt force trauma upon (Nakita) by means of physical force … emotional abuse, and/or lack of physical and/or medical care, which caused bruising, pain, burns, broken bones, and injuries,” that led to the little girl’s death.

Interestingly, the grand jury also determined that the abuse that ultimately killed Nakita occurred between July 1 and August 16, 2012. I wonder what testimony they heard to come to that conclusion.

It sure doesn’t sound like grand jury believed the potty training story. I don’t believe it myself.

Veronica T. Herrera was facing charges of 1st-degree murder, as well as 4 counts of felony injury to a child — for involving her children aged 12, 9, 8 and 3, help her burn the body. The hellbitch was also charged with destroying, altering or concealing the body of Nakita.

At first Veronica T. Herrera pled not guilty to the charges, but on April 11, 2013 she pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. She also pled guilty to failure to report a death, destroying evidence, and 3 counts of injury to a child.

Veronica T. Herrera, the murderous mom, will be sentenced on July 25. The Owyhee County Prosecutor Doug Emery is seeking a sentence of 15 to 40 years in prison.

I truly hope the children are now leading safe, happy and secure lives. And I hope their mother never reenters their lives at any point.

Veronica T. Herrera once told a police detective that God will never forgive her. Who can?

RIP, little Nakita.
